                                                                                     Statement

We at TruBlood American Bulldogs are dedicated to the betterment of the American Bulldog in the Greater Dallas/ FT. Worth Metropolitan area. Our primary focus is Working and Competing our dogs verses Breeding a lot we also Believe the Bulldogs of Today should Look and have the Tenacity of the Bulldogs of  Yesterday. The Temperament, Structure and Protective Instinct are the Key Development to having a Good Breeding Program. Through Selective Breeding from Top American Bulldog Bloodlines we have been able to accomplish our goal of producing Johnson Type Dogs also called the Classic or Bully Type which Consistently produces Size and Athletic Structure as well as an Intelligent Functional True Big Bone American Bulldog that will exceed in Showing, Working, Obedience, and will make an excellent new family member. Our dogs range from 85 to 125+ lbs. and 22" to 26" at Withers with Excellent Hips, Correct Angulation and Thick Hocks. Due to Unscrupulous Breeders and Puppy Mills, The American Bulldog has now become Over Bred with Poor Structure Quality and is now Frequently showing up in Animal Shelters across the country. If you are thinking about owning this wonderful breed we have One to  Two Litters per year we choose not to do a lot of Breeding to maintain a social level amongst our dogs we have on our yard and consider them Companion's as well as Personal Protector's verses Primarily Breeding for the Dollar we are Dedicated to the breed and proud of it's survival. We Strongly Believe that a Sound Bulldog is the Best Bulldog and Quality not Quantity is our Main Priority Here at TruBlood American Bulldogs.

                      Temperament Testing

Our puppies are Temperament Tested for the individuals needs of our buyers ensuring that we carefully socialize are puppies so we can determine the characteristics and temperaments to fit there new environment because American Bulldogs are known for their great versatility that it being Working, Personal Protector or a Family Companion puppies are able to learn many different things, but they are also very independent , obstinate, dominant and willful. In addition we exposed our puppies regularly to friendly strangers because they have a natural protective instinct toward anyone they do not know. Our puppies need to know how to recognize the difference between good people and bad people keep in mind that Dogs have different personalities like human beings so according to your life style or activities determines what pup is good for it's new home.

                                              Basic Training

When you decide to train your American Bulldog you must be prepared. American Bulldogs are at their best when they are given a job or task to accomplish these dogs love to be walked frequently with a secure leash. They enjoy playing with family members and romping and roaming in a generous yard. If you are not prepared, the American Bulldog tends to become bored easily and will end up using its energy on things within your home like tables, shoes, water hoses and other such things. Remember adequate daily attention consists of only one hour. But, you need to make sure that you have this time and energy to exercise and train this active breed. If not you will probably want to try another type of breed.

Training an American Bulldog must begin early for this breed. They do not do well with heavy handed or harsh training methods so this is important to keep in mind. Training that is fair, firm, consistent and patient work best for this breed. American Bulldogs have many skills that can be enhanced like hunting, guarding, weight pulling, and tracking. It is important to note that this breed's level of training requirements is moderately high. These dogs do not do well with self discipline and, thus, they will need much attention and time. Because they are highly intelligent and confident they have been known to get in trouble easily and become inappropriately protective. These potential problems can be remedied with proper attention, care and training.

House breaking your American Bulldog is very important and must be started as soon as possible. Thus, it is important to create an immediate daily routine to help prevent urination accidents that can occur when you first bring a dog home. If you set a consistent routine like taking your dog outside before you go to work, when you get home, and one additional time before bedtime this will help your dog learn to have more control during the times you are not home. Instilling daily routines will also help to make the American Bulldog feel more comfortable around people and their surroundings. Depending on the situation, developing a routine can potentially take up to six months, and once your dog is trained you will need to maintain the routine in to keep your dog happy and feeling secure.

                                       Weight Pulling Training

How to begin your Dog or Puppy in canine weight pulling. Weight pulling is a fun and enjoyable way to exercise and compete with your Dog. There are some very basic things you can do to develop your dog into a good puller. . I like to begin harness introduction at a  young age of  20 weeks. At this point we are putting the harness on playing with the pups favorite toy just playing around and letting them wear it and get used to it being on. You can get small harnesses that go as small as a 12lb dog and will fit it up to about 30-33lbs. These are very inexpensive and are a great way to get going but do not work for older dogs being started. You can also do this basic step if introducing a adult dog too. Once the pup/dog is comfortable wearing a harness we like to have them start pulling a something small and lightweight just to get used to a little tugging and begin to get the idea for what's going on. After this you can have them pull a Plastic bottle (2 liter or a milk jug) half full of rocks or coins (penny's) tied to a 10-15 ft  line of rope. Be sure to always have a leash on your dog. Just let them walk around and just keep the dog getting used to the tugging of the bottle and the noises it makes behind them. If your pup/dog is attacking or getting spooked by the bottle put it on a longer line so the noises are quieter and further away. Once you dog has worn the harness and you have had a little fun it is time to get serious. You will need a Quality Weight pulling harness. We like to Collar our dogs to help keep the dog focused. You must be sure to keep your dog leashed even a well trained pull dog will still use a leash on drag walks and in cart/rail training. Once a pup  is an older dog that is being started pulling and is comfortable with wearing a harness and pulling the bottle or very light weight have the dog walk 20-30 yards at a time pulling a light Tow Chain or small Drag Sled. Keep telling it to pull/work or word of your choice, whatever you want the dog to know when you want it to pull. Keep them walking if they go to stop correct them with a tug on the leash and have them walk a little more and then allow them to stop. Be sure you keep a slower pace as it will help them feel comfortable when pulling heavy loads in competition. This is when you really need to learn your dog and figure out what your dogs strengths are. The most important thing is to never set your dog up to fail, never let your dog fail and give it more weight than it can handle. You will also figure out what keeps your dog/pup most interested in pulling. Keep doing long walks as stated above with light weight being sure to give the dog its pull command and not allowing it to stop unless it has been told to do so. Give them lots of praise while stopped and while pulling, treat them if you are comfortable with food praise or a toy. The down side to using food praise or a toy is they are always looking for the food or the toy and if you are going to compete food treats and toys are not allowed while the dog is competing. What we do is give them the food praise or toy when they are done with a 30 min. to 45 min. training session. Be sure to give your pup/dog a lot of Praise, then give them one of their daily feedings.  Do a good week before moving on to the next phases.  Make sure you take things slow and do not push the dog at this point we want the dog to do best in the long run and not set it up to fail. Be sure you always use a leash training and keep the dog focused.
